Citizens' Pledge Against Corruption

To the Great People of Ghana,

As a concerned citizen, I support a governance ethos that fights against corruption, enhances transparency, and ensures accountability. I pledge to encourage political aspirants to commit to the following:

1.  Financial Transparency and Probity:

a. Ensure proper asset declaration and verification by CHRAJ, as outlined in Article 286 (5), for themselves and all individuals appointed to public office.

2. Transparent Governance:

a. Advocate for publishing sole-sourced contracts above GHS 100,000 for public scrutiny before signing.

b. Oppose the creation of additional districts and ensure the focus is on enhancing existing ones.

c. Ensure the scrapping of ex-gratia for public officers and advocate for their enrolment in the SSNIT pension scheme.

d. Champion the amendment of Article 78 (1) of the Constitution to allow for a wider pool of ministerial candidates, not limited to a majority from parliament.

e. Ensure that ministerial appointments do not surpass the publicly announced number by the elected presidential aspirant.

f. Support and champion the passage of conduct of public officers’ legislation with a robust asset declaration regime that effectively regulates conflict of interest and gifts.

g. Ensure that their political parties submit all outstanding audited financials to the electoral commission as required by law before the 2024 elections and continue to do so after the elections.

h. Publicly disclose the identities of entities who donate to their campaign.

3. Decentralisation and Grassroots Empowerment:

a. Champion the cause for ensuring district and municipal chief executives are elected to enhance grassroots participation in governance.

b. Support the strengthening of protective mechanisms for Whistleblowers and bolster the protections under the Whistleblower Act, 2006 (Act 720), ensuring those who expose corruption are shielded from any form of retaliation.

4. Enforcement and Accountability:

a. As a responsible and committed citizen, I affix my signature to this pledge and encourage you to do the same. Together, we can create a Ghana free from the shackles of corruption.
