Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu extradited to Ghana to serve prison sentence

Former chief executive of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, was extradited to Ghana on June 9, 2026, to serve her 10-year sentence.

A former chief executive of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, has arrived in Ghana following her extradition from the United States to serve a 10-year prison sentence for embezzling state funds worth GHS90 million.

Her return on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, follows more than two years of legal proceedings and efforts by Ghanaian and American authorities to secure her extradition after she failed to appear during the trial.

Government Spokesperson, Felix Ofosu Kwakye, said upon her arrival in Ghana, officials from the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Prisons Service took her into custody.

Ms Tamakloe-Attionu failed to return to Ghana from the United States after securing permission from the High Court in 2021 to travel to the United States for medical treatment while her trial was ongoing.

Despite her failure to return, the Court continued the trial in her absence.

An Accra High Court convicted Tamakloe-Attionu in absentia in 2024 after finding her guilty of multiple offences, including causing financial loss to the state and stealing.

The conviction stemmed from a prolonged legal battle involving allegations of misappropriation and the diversion of state resources during her administration of the government-funded microfinance institution.

Meanwhile, government spokesperson, Kwakye Ofosu, has said that Ghanaian authorities are meeting U.S state officials regarding pending extradition request, two of which involve former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta and his chef de cabinet, Ernest Darko Akore.
